Outer garments

Outer garments are the third and the most visible layer of the outfit. These clothes had protective and representative tasks. They spoke of the social status of the wearer. For example, very long garments in a form of nearly fantasy dresses with long and loose sleeves were mainly used by members of higher social classes.

In this group of garments we can find plenty of forms. Among outer garments for men we can find: a surcote (the 13th and the 14th centuries), a cotehardie, a houppelande, a robe, a coat and other forms of the above. Ladies, on the other hand, used to wore: various outer dresses, Burgundian dresses, houppelande, cotehardie and surcotes.

Some of them are hard to classify, sometimes taking the form of fantasy dresses perfect for LARP events, but we can assure that our clothing is based on historical sources.
